Random Acts of Kindness Day

Do we really need a day for this?

Shouldn’t we be practicing random acts of kindness on a daily basis? As part of what we do in our life? To make this a better place for others? And doesn’t it then in turn give us a boost as well?

The correct answer to all of these questions is: YES.

The problem is, most people live in a state of unawareness. In order to practice random acts of kindness, we need to be aware of other people. Their circumstances or their story. You don’t need to KNOW the story. You just need to know EVERYONE has a story. It doesn’t matter what it is either. That’s so not important.

Perhaps being aware of the fact that we all have a story, good/bad, right/wrong, easy/difficult – will allow us to follow our hearts more which in turn, really and truly, automatically aligns us to kindness and generosity. When we’re in that mindset – you cannot help but share it with others and that’s where the random acts of kindness comes into play.

On this day, or any other day if you haven’t tried it already, test this theory. Be aware of the other guy. Be conscious that they too have a life filled with who knows what. Oh, and remember no, no one needs to know the what and no one needs to guess the what either.

Go through the day in a mindful way. Notice what’s going on around, with, or to, others. Then, once you are aware, when the opportunity arises for you to help out – well, there’s your random act of kindness just waiting for you to make it happen.

Open a door for someone pushing a baby carriage or who has their hands full or return their cart to the carousel, share your umbrella, let someone go first, smile at someone. There's not a lot of free stuff in this world but look at this, it’s all FREE to give. The best part is, the return on this free investment is, well it’s just HUGE. Allow yourself to experience it.

We never know what act, word, deed, or gesture we put forth will do for, or to, another human being. Might as well make it a good one and when you do, you’ll notice the random acts of kindness spreading. That person will, in turn, perform an act of kindness not so long after they received yours. This is the way it always seems to work. It’s the law of give and take.

Try it out. See what happens. I’ll just bet you’ll find you practice random acts of kindness not just on the designated day, but throughout the year. After all, it is in the giving that we truly receive.

Intending your random acts of kindness day is truly abundant in all you give to others. If it is, it will be truly abundant to you as well!
