HAPPY FLAG DAY!

I love flag day. It's one of those holidays that we all celebrated in elementary school and then somehow, as the world changed, or perhaps as we got lazy, this "little" holiday got overlooked and the celebrations of our flag have gone by the wayside.

Too bad. I often wonder if the children today understand all that this flag represents. Is the technology that has driven our society to become somewhat reclusive and less knowledgable about these little things getting in the way of truly knowing about and recognizing the small things that  really are the HUGE things? Whether you were born here, or came to this country to make a better life, this flag is YOUR flag and it needs to be honored for all it depicts.

It makes my heart soar to see our countrys flag flying in the breeze ouside of homes and businesses. It's a reminder of freedom for every person living here and bravery for those who have fought so we can keep this freedom. I cherish our flag and all it represents. It reminds me to be grateful for the many blessings I have in my life simply because I was born in this country. Yes, this beautiful red, white and blue flag brings a tear to my eye and a huge smile to my heart. Thank You, GOD!

Our flag has been honored in song too. There are so many patriotic songs and they all hold  a special meaning for varying reasons - at least to me they do. But did you know that our flag has its' own personal song, written by George M. Cohan. I think of this song every flag day and I find I am humming it throughout the day and smiling when I catch myself doing so. I laugh a bit, but I'm laughing because it makes me feel so good. I love this  high that I get at seeing our flag waving in the wind and withstanding rain and snow. It's a reminder. and I love the reminder. I love acknowledging what it all stands for, realizing how important it is and what it means to me.

So, if you're curious and you want to take a stroll down memory lane, or perhaps you didn't know the flag had a song of its own, well, here you go.

You're a grand old flag,
 You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
 You're the emblem of
 The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
 Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast nor brag.
But should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

Intending you all a very Happy Flag Day!

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!
